“Well Strung Wood” is four musicians that
blend their talents for
slow airs and waltzes,
rousing fiddle tunes,
playful and fun songs,
and traditional ballads
as a unique
ensemble with wide appeal.
Jeff Furman is a multi-instrumentalist (mountain dulcimer, clawhammer banjo, guitar,
autoharp, and string bass) who has been playing old-time music since
1980. Primarily a banjo player for many years, Jeff developed a
rhythmic and melodic style of playing which has heavily influenced his
dulcimer playing. He has an extensive repertoire of old-time fiddle
music which crosses over to a strong interest in Celtic music.
Janet Furman is known for her beautiful vocals and a wonderful
combination of sweet touch on melody and harmony fiddle along with an
energetic driving old-time fiddle sound.
Norm Boggs is a well-known and
renowned fiddler and guitar player with a vast repertoire of traditional
songs, shanties, and Civil War era tunes.
Gordon Arnold is a
marvelous cellist capable of playing many styles of music. In addition
to bowing tasteful counter-melodies and playing up-tempo fiddle tunes,
Gordon also “frails” the cello adding a unique and supportive low
rhythmic sound to fiddle tunes.
The ability of these four musicians to
blend their talents for slow airs and waltzes, rousing fiddle tunes,
playful and fun songs, and traditional ballads makes
“Well Strung Wood” a unique ensemble with wide appeal.
