Current Schedule
2011
June 19 – 24, 2011 “Kentucky Music Week 2011” - I am pleased to once again be on the outstanding faculty for this top-notch and widely popular music festival. Held in Bardstown, Kentucky, this music week provides a wide range of classes for many instruments and crafts and offers plenty of jamming, concerts, vending for all types of music-related items and instruments, and much fun! This year I will be teaching the following classes: Clawhammer Banjo (beyond beginner); and three mountain dulcimer classes…Improving Your Right Hand; Playing With a Capo; and Improving Your Ear…Hearing and Listening! If you’ve never been to KMW, you should treat yourself to a week of music and fun! For more information, see their website at www.kentuckymusicweek.com.
August 13, 2011 “NGFDA Summer Satellite Gathering” - This event will be a day of workshops for members of NGFDA’s various satellite groups and will be held this year in Hartwell, Georgia. I will also play in an evening concert with my wife, Janet. She will be teaching some bowing classes as well. Details will be available soon at NGFDA’s website www.NGFDA.com.
November 11 – 13, 2011 “Knoxville Area Dulcimer Club Retreat 2011” - This will be my first time teaching in Knoxville, Tennessee and I’m very excited to part of the KADC’s Retreat for 2011. This retreat is held in Townsend, Tennessee and gets rave reviews from students and faculty who have attended past retreats. There will be classes, jamming, open stage, and concerts. I know there are many fine players in the Knoxville area so I look forward to putting my stamp on their music experience and learning. Details of classes will be forthcoming. The KADC website is www.knoxvilledulcimers.org.
November 17 – 20, 2011 “NGFDA Fall Festival 2011” - This wonderful festival is held in Helen, Georgia at the Unicoi State Park Lodge. A beautiful setting, great facilities, outstanding faculty, lots of jamming, vending, a swap table for buying/selling instruments and music-related items, and wonderful people make this one of the best dulcimer festivals in the country. I am pleased and honored to have been invited back to teach and perform. I will be teaching 6 classes: Playing and Singing Old Time Songs; Playing Above the 7th Fret; Improving Essential Left Hand Techniques; Embellishing Celtic Airs; Hearing Chord Changes and Playing By Ear, and Exploring the Aeolian Mode.
